Just a bit of background about the people who make the remembrance parade happen, who all give up their time for no fee but the reward of putting on a great & respectful Remembrance Sunday event.
Keith moved to Sutton in Ashfield in 2003 and has made it his home. During that time, he served as a company commander in Iraq and in the Permanent Joint Headquarters going on to command 3 Royal Anglian. Following command, he took over as Head of Engagement for the Army in the East Midlands and East of England and became involved with his home Remembrance parade in 2018, joining the team in 2021 to help deliver a community event.
Liz Barrett was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield and continues to live and work locally. Liz is involved as a volunteer in many different community projects / groups and has been involved in the Sutton Remembrance event for a decade. Liz passionately believes that it is really important to create an intergenerational Remembrance event which enables the community to come together and to appreciate the sacrifices that have taken place to enable us to life as freely as we do.
Liz has also just been announced as the Deputy Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire & we're all very proud of her.
Jon Caunt born and bred in Sutton In Ashfield joined the Army in 1992 until 2002 where he re-badged to the RAF Regiment. During his combined service he has deployed to Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan amongst other places. He was awarded the Royal Gurkha Rifles silver coin commendation for his actions in Afghanistan. He still resides in Sutton In Ashfield and is employed locally has a class 1 driver
Cass was born in Sutton and served with REME 7armd as a recovery mechanic.
Some you may know him as a pub landlord & DJ for many years, as well as looking after the social media side Cass has been busy procuring the necessary goods & services to creat the dispay you will see & developing this website.
Geoff W Dixon joined the Royal Artillery in 1979 and undertook tours of Northen Ireland, rising to the rank of sergeant. Geoff left the army in 1996 where he then spent three years in the Indian Ocean working on an anti pirate campaign. Geoff then worked in Bagdad and Iraq for a further three year. He is married, with five children and five grandchildren. Geoff is 2i/c for the Remembrance parade.
I was born (a long time ago) in Mansfield and qualified as a Pharmacist in 1978, spending all my career in the local community before retiring in Dec 2019. Josie and I were married in 1978 and we have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren. Outside of work, I've been a member of the Rotary Club of Sutton in Ashfield for over 30 years, I enjoy(?) playing golf, watching most sports, in particular the Stags and holidaying as often as I can.
I am very proud to be involved in the Together in Ashfield CIC.
Simon has worked for the social, civic and economic regeneration of the Ashfield and wider Nottinghamshire community since 1991. He was the Headteacher and Principal of Sutton Centre Community College and led it to Academy status in 2013. After a spell as national Director of Further Education for Academy Transformation Trust he now supports the Adult, Further and Community Education work of ATTFE College. Simon is a Chartered Company Secretary and specialises in education and governance leadership. During the late 80s and early 90s he served in the Territorial Army, mainly with the Royal Green Jackets, and is a keen military historian.
Adam is one of the tutors at Sutton academy ATTFE & with the students has been amazing, Turning raw materials into the finished silhouettes. you can see more in the projects page.
Darron Ellis is a local historian, you may know him from facebook groups such as Sutton livng memory & Sutton in Ashfield.
